[00:00:19.940] - Candi Broeffle, Host

Good morning and welcome to Green Tea Conversations, the radio show that delves into the pages of Natural Awakenings magazine to bring you the local experts who share their progressive ideas and the latest information and insights needed so you can lead your best life. I'm your host Candi Broeffle, publisher of the Twin Cities edition of Natural Awakenings magazine, and I am honored to bring these experts to you. Today's guest is Joyce Sobotta, a breast health educator and founder of Healthy Girls Breast Oil.

[00:00:50.330] - Candi Broeffle, Host

Joyce is passionate about teaching women to love their breasts and take responsibility for their health. She is a highly sought trainer and speaker and has facilitated breast health programs for leading health organizations across Minnesota and Wisconsin, including Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the Mayo Health System. So, Joyce, I always like to start the conversation...fIrst of all, I want to remind people you have been on the show before, but it's been a long time now since you were you were with us before. It has to be a couple of years at least.

[00:01:25.610]

So I always ask people, especially when they're first on the show, and because it's been a while since you've been on the show, I'm going to ask you to talk about your journey a little bit. Tell us what it is that brought you to Aromatherapy Nature's Way.

[00:01:41.320] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

Well, I was introduced to essential oils way back in 2002. A company that I was with had essential oils and someone had a workshop where they put all these essential oils on us, on a display, and we were to be able to create a blend, smell the oils and see what we...it was all new to me. But yes, I was very intrigued about learning this. I love to learn. And so I took some oils and I created things and we had what they do and how they were going to work.

[00:02:21.640] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

And then I found out that they really did work. I was so excited about...I wanted to share. At that time I was with the Alzheimer's Association and I wanted to share what I learned with a support group and also caregivers. And then I did present at the State Alzheimer's Conference, Wisconsin conference in 2003 and 2004 about the essential oils and how they could help with the Alzheimer's and caregivers as well. So I created blends and they were things like Pain Be Gone and because I knew I was learning which oils did.

[00:03:01.480] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

And then, I wanted more learning and I just kept gobbling up whatever I could learn about essential oils. And that's kind of how I started and just kept going with workshops.

[00:03:15.750] - Candi Broeffle, Host

I find it so interesting that essential oils back even 20 years ago were maybe seen as not so mainstream, where nowadays people really have accepted them as a as a valued, help in healing, help in pain, help with emotional issues. There's so many things and it's not uncommon.

[00:03:44.840] - Candi Broeffle, Host

I know you said you introduced it to people at the Alzheimer's Association, for both the patients and the caregivers. And when you think about that, it's really interesting because there's so many things that you can do to help with people who are having those Alzheimer's symptoms. The Alzheimer's, like not sleeping correctly and getting anxiety or anxious and there's things that you can do with that. But it's also great for the caregivers who are also really struggling sometimes to be able to, for lack of better terminology, hold it together as they're taking care of people.

[00:04:22.400] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

Right. There's a lot of emotions and essential oils are very, very good for emotions.

[00:04:29.920] - Candi Broeffle, Host

So let's talk a bit about...essential oils have been around forever. So let's talk a little bit about essential oils from a historical perspective.

[00:04:40.810] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

Well, there was many references, even in the Bible about the essential oils. And we know that they have been used over time and now the public and actually the medical field is starting to use them. And you'll find that in hospitals now, they are offering essential oil therapy along with their other therapies as a choice, which is excellent. So, yes, it's come a long way.

[00:05:16.330] - Candi Broeffle, Host

It really, really has. And it's so it's so interesting now, almost any story you go into, whether it is a natural health store or a big box store, they're carrying essential oils in the pharmacies and in different areas of the store. So it really does go to...they can be very, very effective in helping people with many different issues. And today we get to talk about some of the things that some of the oils that you have created or the special blends that you have created to help people as well.

[00:05:49.690] - Candi Broeffle, Host

We're going to get into that in a bit. But the first thing I want to know, there's so many different kinds that we can look at. When it comes to essential oils, what do you think is your favorite oil and why?

[00:06:04.360] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

Well, I would have to say Lemon, and there are so many uses for lemon. You know, I feel it's a cleansing oil. So if it's something physical cleansing, if it's something emotional, a cleansing...it is just a good oil to put in. Then in the kitchen you can use it in recipes and you can use it in your water. I use it along with peppermint in a mouthwash. And there's so many uses - cleansing...OK...another thing you can take off sticky stuff because of the constituents in the lemon. So like, "Oh, something sticky like glue or a..."

[00:06:53.560] - Candi Broeffle, Host

Like a plastic bracelet that you can't get out of?

[00:06:55.650] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

Yeah. The lemon will take care of. But be careful because it'll also dissolve the plastic. So it sits on plastic and then you're out of luck not you want to use it carefully and learn. And this is, this is the fun about essential oils. As you experiment, you are learning. And that's exactly what I did. And now I share what I've learned. So, that's the fun part about it. Don't be afraid to experiment.

[00:07:21.940] - Candi Broeffle, Host

So when it comes to Lemon, you said it's good for cleansing. It is a citrus. I always tend to gravitate toward the citrus aromatherapies, the essential oils. And I think just they make me feel happy. They make me feel uplifted.

[00:07:39.100] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

Yeah, that's that's definitely still the citrus. Yep.

[00:07:43.000] - Candi Broeffle, Host

So it's kind of with all the citrus ones, lemon and and verbena or orange. Any of those.

[00:07:51.910] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

Right. Yes. And it has to limonene and that's something that we've learned that actually stops us eibner stops and the growth of abnormal cells. So there's studies that show that. So limonene. And then another essential oil, our second essential oil is frankincense that maybe a lot of people tend to shy away from because they think it's more expensive. But actually it is not. The essential oils come in a small bottle and you just use one or two drops at a time.

[00:08:28.060] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

And I've used frankincense. I love frankincense in my blends. It has so many uses. So besides stopping those abnormal cells, it is a purifier too. I use it with lemon and frankincense and lavender and a mole that I had that was starting to change, and I continued to use it day and night, morning and evening, and it finally went away. But it took about three or four months before. But morning and night I kept putting it on.

[00:09:02.350] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

It finally became crusty. And then and I didn't pick it off. I just kept on the blend of frankincense, lemon and lavender, roll it on and it went away. There was no scar or anything.

[00:09:19.120] - Candi Broeffle, Host

I'm sure. Did you have it in a carrier oil?

[00:09:22.270] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

Yes, it was in global oil which is anti-inflammatory. Yes.

[00:09:26.590] - Candi Broeffle, Host

And then was that equal amounts of lilac, lemon, and frankincense?

[00:09:32.050] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

No, it's lemon, lemon, you mentioned lilac, it's lemon.

[00:09:35.540] - Candi Broeffle, Host

Oh, I'm sorry.

[00:09:37.450] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

Lemon, frankincense, and lavender.

[00:09:41.200] - Candi Broeffle, Host

Yes, I meant to say lavender, not lilac. I apologize. So was it equal amounts then of each of those?

[00:09:50.480] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

Yes, I believe so, yeah. And, you know, again, use my intuition and everyone has intuition. So, what did I put in it? I don't remember anymore. But you put in the drops, what your mind tells you to put in. It's just in your hand. It's in your heart. It's in your head. It's there. So, again, I just encourage people - don't be afraid, just do it.

[00:10:18.470] - Candi Broeffle, Host

That is such a good piece of advice. And it's a reason that I started Green Tea Conversations to begin with, is there's so many of us, so many people don't trust their intuition. And we start to listen to other people about what we should do, including professionals, about what we should do with our health when really we have the information we need within us. We just need more education. And once we do that, if we could start trusting our instincts, we can make some really good health decisions.

[00:10:55.170] - Candi Broeffle, Host

So I appreciate that you say that with essential oils to just trust your intuition. Listen to what your heart and brain is telling you and go with that.

[00:11:04.790] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

Definitely, yes.

[00:11:06.920] - Candi Broeffle, Host

[00:12:17.230] - Candi Broeffle, Host

Welcome back to Green Tea Conversations where we delve into the pages of Natural Awakenings magazine and talk to the professionals who share their expertise on natural health with you. I'm your host, Candi Broeffle. And today we're talking with Joyce Sobotta, a breast health educator and founder of Healthy Girls Breast Oil. So, Joyce, just before the break, you were starting to share with us some of the different oils, your favorite oil being lemon, and then you shared with us another one called frankincense.

[00:12:47.290]

And I wanted to share with you and with our listeners that I recently used frankincense with one of our clients in our adult foster care. She was kind of in her final stages of cancer, of leukemia. And she was really suffering a lot with neuropathy of the feet. And she would get very, very hot and uncomfortable, very painful. She was having a lot of pain. She was on some different medications for it as well. But I was in the store one day and happened to see a bottle talking about using frankincense, that this bottle had frankincense in it and it was used typically or mostly for neuropathy.

[00:13:35.080]

So I had picked it up and started using it with her. And she did find a lot of relief with it. And so I wanted to ask you - is frankincense something that would typically be used for neuropathy?

[00:13:49.780] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

Well, and I think frankincense, because of all the other conditions she was having, that was an excellent choice. I would have chosen that myself. And then maybe in and because it was a neuropathy, a nerve condition, I would have also added Roman chamomile, which is a neurovine. But definitely frankincense was probably the main one for, again, the conditions, the things that were going on in her life at that time, the heat and you know her final stages, all of that frankincense was your best choice, I believe.

[00:14:26.440] - Candi Broeffle, Host

Well, very good. I'm glad to hear that.

[00:14:28.420] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

Well, again, I believe in your intuition because it was put in front of you and you you took that and used that because it was there and it felt right. And it was it was right.

[00:14:42.850] - Candi Broeffle, Host

Yeah, she was so happy. She she had gotten so much relief from it and it had gotten to the point that it was almost unbearable for her. So so I was glad that we found it as well. But let's talk a little bit about Roman chamomile then. You said it's a nervine. What does that mean? Nervine?

[00:15:01.720] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

Nervine means it does help for nerves and it'll calm down, soothe them. So when the happy baby, for instance, it's to calm the baby or to calm feelings of anxiety. So that's what Roman chamomile does. It's excellent. And it also is for stomach digestion and digestion issues. So it calms the stomach, calms the digestion.

[00:15:29.800] - Candi Broeffle, Host

And so how would you use it if you wanted to calm the digestion?

[00:15:35.080] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

I would use it on my wrists. Again, I don't promote ingesting essential oils. You want to know what you're doing. You want to work with an aromatherapist. I am an aromatherapist, but I don't promote because the essential oils work in the bloodstream. And when you put it on your skin with a safe carrier, it goes right to the bloodstream and goes to the intracellular fluid where it needs to do its work. So that's the way you would use it for on probably on your tummy.

[00:16:11.920] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

That would be one. If we're going to use I'd mentioned other oils here, too, for digestion, the peppermint, ginger, and that kind of thing. So there's so much. We can't get it all done in half an hour.

[00:16:25.840] - Candi Broeffle, Host

We're not going to get through everything in this show. Is what you're telling me? Well, it is very interesting though, and I'm glad that you brought that up because it can be I mean, people can get very sick if they ingest an oil incorrectly, if they don't know how to use it correctly.

[00:16:42.820] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

That's very true. Right.

[00:16:45.190] - Candi Broeffle, Host

So we need to be very careful with it but using it and you said with a safe carrier. So let's talk about that a minute because I think sometimes people misunderstand essential oils and they get it and then they just start putting it on their skin. What do you mean by having a safe carrier?

[00:17:05.380] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

Well, a safe carrier of mean, it could be a lotion, it could be an oil, it could be know unscented lotion or an oil like grapeseed or jojoba. There's several different oils, even olive oil, you know, a carrier is something bubble bath, you know, if you're going to use it in the bath, you want to put it in a carrier, something that will carry it across the skin and down into the bloodstream.

[00:17:34.170] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

So in a way, it's a safe carrier, something without petroleum. So you don't want to put it in mineral oil, baby oil, where they call that...it's made with mineral oil. Anyway. it's too high a molecular weight. So it will not go into the skin. It just sits on top. For instance, like chapstick. It just sits on the top of your lips. It is not like coconut oil or something like that will absorb into the skin layers and do a benefit.

[00:18:07.230] - Candi Broeffle, Host

So any of the more natural oils. Is that what you promote? Coconut oil, avocado oil, sesame oil...

[00:18:16.200] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

Grapeseed.

[00:18:18.030] - Candi Broeffle, Host

So, we have many, many that we can choose from. And does it have to be any certain type of grade of oil or is something that you just find in the grocery store? Does that work?

[00:18:29.190] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

Well, if you're choosing a coconut oil, you want the pure essential oil, the pure coconut oil. Yes, there is a difference. So you don't buy the cheapest one. You look for and you look for the GMO. No GMO and those kinds of things.

[00:18:48.720] - Candi Broeffle, Host

All right. Very good. So one of the things I wanted to talk about is the services that you provide at Aromatherapy Nature's Way. The services you create blend for people. And this is this is really different. You're not promoting like a network marketing type of product, not that there's anything wrong with that. But that's not what you're doing. You're creating your own essential oil blends.

[00:19:19.050] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

That's correct because I love to do that. And I'd love to have people tell...that's why I like to do the consulting, a custom blend for your specific needs. And, you know, like I've made the Pain Begone, the Sore Muscle  Roll-On, different to the Bedtime Bliss, the Happy Baby I talked about already.

[00:19:43.860] - Candi Broeffle, Host

And we're getting to some of these special blends in just a moment. But I do want to let people know we're going to talk about this a little bit too when we come back. But I also want people to know they can come to you and have a consult, which you do right over the phone.

[00:20:01.720] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

That's right.

[00:20:02.160] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

You do a personalized consult with people. And if they're having any kind of health issues or maybe emotions that they're having trouble managing, they can contact you. Is it 25 dollars for the consult?

[00:20:18.330] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

Yes.

[00:20:19.260] - Candi Broeffle, Host

Which is so affordable, but for 25 dollars, set an appointment with you, and then you'll go through a process with them to help discover what are the best blends that you can create for them. So when we come back, we're going to get into those a little bit more and we're going to get into some of the blends that you have available on your website. For people who want to learn more about what Joyce does and to engage her as a speaker, visit AromatherapyNature'sWay.com. You are listening to Green Tea Conversations on AM950, the progressive voice of Minnesota. And we will be right back.

[00:21:17.480] - Candi Broeffle, Host

Welcome back to Green Tea Conversations, where we delve into the pages of Natural Awakenings magazine and talk to the professionals who share their expertise on natural health with you, I'm your host, Candi Broeffle. And today we're visiting with Joyce Sobotta, a breast health educator and founder of Healthy Girls Breast Oil. So just before the break, Joyce, we were starting to talk about the fact that you create custom blends for people.

[00:21:45.350] - Candi Broeffle, Host

And I do want to talk a little bit more about that in a minute. But you already have some blends on your website that are just very, very interesting to me, including a line that you have available called the Angelic Mystic. And within there, you have six different blends including one for balance, focus, one called Whisper, Strength, Perception, and Harmony. And they are all very, very interesting. I'm kind of curious as to what guided you to create this line.

[00:22:25.040] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

Someone who does channeling actually contacted me and she said, "We need...I have this angelic realm that is really wanting you to create these blends and they, through her channeling, gave me these blends, you know, the names...some of the names I chose. But they were telling which essential oils needed to go into the blend and what they were for. And so there isn't a whole lot of description on the website about them. But it says...OK, so for instance, it says "Waken to a higher consciousness" for the Whisper. And that's exactly what it is. It's very subtle. And we have the Mandarin, Alimi, Clary Sage, which like the Alimi soothes the emotions of its cooling and brings relief to the skin. So it does these kinds of things. But again, it was supposed to put this in for Whisper. Once you are calm, then you can hear the voice. And Perception would be another one. And that was in vision vibrant clarity and understanding. And then we have Distilled Lime, Sweet Orange Lemon, Rosalina, and Black Spruce.

[00:23:48.660]

So Distilled Lime and I specify that it's Distilled Lime because there is a difference instead of just pressed lime, as in the other citrus, lemon and orange and grapefruit goes...this is distilled, which can be used differently. It can be used for sore throats, flu, and it's to clear oily, congested skin. But it's not photosensitive as the other essential oils are that are the other citrus essential oils are, that are cold-pressed. This one is distilled. So that's a special thing about Distilled Lime.

[00:24:35.070]

There's the Black Spruce in there too, and that one is for...another calming one, uplift emotions, relieve muscle aches and sore pain, joint pain, and to help with chronic fatigue, poor circulation, respiratory...all of these oils do different things and take away emotional blocks. So they do so many things, not only on the physical level but on the emotional level.

[00:25:02.190] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

And I believe these Angelic Mystic, that I believe that they are guided toward the emotions that people have, which can relieve the physical conditions. So each of them have a name that kind of goes with what, you know, the whisper perception. The last one that was created was Harmony and a perfect one for what's going on or have been going on. We need harmony.

[00:25:32.100] - Candi Broeffle, Host

I know for the last 18 months.

[00:25:33.330] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

So that was the last one that was created just before the pandemic, just actually in two thousand and twenty-one was given to me to create. So and I believe that with all of them, this is going to be now the sixth.

[00:25:50.910] - Candi Broeffle, Host

So how do you use these particular oils? What is the best way?

[00:25:55.720] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

These are in a spray bottle. So they actually can be misted on the face, on your arms, on your body, anywhere. They are in a spray bottle. And they they were originally used with an elixir. So a little crystal was put in. But now we energetically put that crystal in. So, for instance, the strength we had Chameleon oil, the crystal that was in there for strength, confidence.

[00:26:25.470] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

So anyway, there's a whole lot that goes into it all. But they're beautiful oils and yeah, mist them on your face, mist them on your neck. I like to mist on my neck. Somebody may not. I have glasses and you can't always mist with glasses but I've mist them on my neck, on my body anywhere, and it calms you down and gets you ready for the day.

[00:26:46.410] - Candi Broeffle, Host

Very nice. I like to that they're all focused toward.. When you're talking about an Angelic Mystic and really trying to tap into our intuition, tap into our knowing, and sometimes, like you said, those emotional blocks block us from being able to do that. So to have those those mystics that can help you to kind of relieve that and then be able to step into those, be able to step into your own knowing.

[00:27:19.140] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

Right.

[00:27:20.460] - Candi Broeffle, Host

Very good. So you also have...now this one is one that I just always am intrigued with and love and I end up always kind of gravitating toward this for many different reasons. But the Tired Feet Cream.

[00:27:36.240] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

And that one is mostly all the citrus essential oils. And I created that one. I created that one for pregnant...I have two granddaughters that were pregnant at the same time and I had a Happy Feet blend. Well it had Rosemary and something else that wasn't really good for a pregnant lady.

[00:27:58.170] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

So I wanted to create something for pregnant women. And so I created the Tired Feet cream.

[00:28:06.000] - Candi Broeffle, Host

And that was tangerine and bergamot and grapefruit.

[00:28:10.350] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

And peregrine. Peregrine is the the citrus, the bark of a citrus tree, the orange tree.

[00:28:18.840] - Candi Broeffle, Host

OK.

[00:28:19.700] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

That's the pedigree.

[00:28:21.450] - Candi Broeffle, Host

And that one is actually in a cream base, not in oils.

[00:28:24.210] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

Right, in organic cream.

[00:28:27.630] - Candi Broeffle, Host

So it is already in the carrier, in the carrier oil, in the carrier product. So it's ready to use right out of the container.

[00:28:37.500] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

Right. That's the way I create all of my blends - ready to use. So, I create them from the little essential oil bottles, and you only need a few drops up to 10 drops in one-ounce bottle.

[00:28:53.400] - Candi Broeffle, Host

That makes it so nice you don't have to worry about trying to think through what you should be doing with it. It's just ready to go. Now, another one that you created is called and this is one that I think a lot of people will be interested in.

[00:29:06.030] - Candi Broeffle, Host

And something that we hear a lot is how people are struggling to find good sleep. And so this one you created is called Bedtime Bliss.

[00:29:16.110] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

Right. And, after a while, after you learn and work with essential oils, you'll find out that there are certain ones and there's orange and lavender are calming. There's Cedarwood, which is a woodsy tree that's going to come Clarys Sage is for calming and for sleep. So all of these were designed. And then there's Rosalina in there. Rosalina is actually a type of melaleuca and it is the most fragrant of all the melaleuca oils. There's many melaleuca oils.

[00:29:51.360] - Candi Broeffle, Host

And what is special about melaleuca oils? Because I think a lot of people haven't heard about Melaleuca.

[00:29:57.510] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

Well, Melaleuca, you know, we think of Tea Tree. Tea Tree is only one of the melaleucas, but there's Rosalina, Narolina, and several hundreds others, I guess, many of them are found in Australia. And these two that I talk about are Rosalina Narrowlina. What's special about them? Well, my little description here on Rosalina, it's known as the lavender tea tree. Rosalina is one of the most fragrant and it's aroma is lavender and rose with a woody Australian bush background and you can use it as a gentle, energizing, anti-microbial oil for massage and other uses. So, yep.

[00:30:45.840] - Candi Broeffle, Host

Very good. And so now I think what I want to do is get into with you about the custom blends that you create. So we started to talk about this in the last segment and kind of went into what it is that you do. So if I were to come to you and say, "I would like to have you create a custom blend for me," I can do that by simply signing up with you. And it only costs 25 dollars.

[00:31:14.940] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

That's right. And then I will do the research and find out. I need to visit with you, find out what your conditions are, what's going on in your life, and then I'll go and do the research and create a blend for you and it'll be, probably in a cream, an organic cream or in an oil base. So I use coconut fraction, coconut oil as my base now because it doesn't get rancid, as do some of the oils in within a year it gets rancid.

[00:31:48.010] - Candi Broeffle, Host

So it will last a long time. And once you have that custom blend made, especially for you. And so what happens with that? You set up a time for me to talk on the phone.

[00:32:00.750] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

Yes.

[00:32:01.590] - Candi Broeffle, Host

And then go through a questionnaire.

[00:32:04.170] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

Yes. You can contact me, text me or email me, whatever, and then we can go from there. It will involve a phone call so I can ask you questions.

[00:32:17.280] - Candi Broeffle, Host

And delve into finding out what it is. So then you'll do all the research to find out what is the best ingredients for it, put it all together and mail it out to me.

[00:32:27.150] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

That's correct.

[00:32:27.150] - Candi Broeffle, Host

That is so interesting. And I love, I mean, it's such an affordable price to do it. It would also make a great present for someone. I mean, especially if you know someone who might be struggling a little bit and you want to create...how much how much would you assume...I know that you can't say for sure, because it depends on what oils are put into the custom blend. But approximately how much does the blend itself cost then?

[00:32:54.000] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

About 15 dollars. Yeah, 15 to 20 dollars. Yeah.

[00:32:58.320] - Candi Broeffle, Host

So for 40 to 50 dollars, you could have a custom blended product that you could give as a gift or give to yourself. I just think that's such a fantastic idea and I highly recommend people do that. So for people who want to learn more about that and to take a look at all of the products that Joyce has available, you can reach her at AromatherapyNature'sWay.Com. You can also learn more about Healthy Girls Breast Oil and order it at HealthyGirlsBreastOil.Com.

Welcome back to Green Tea Conversations where we delve into the pages of Natural Awakenings magazine and talk to the professionals who share their expertise on natural health with you, I'm your host, Candi Broeffle and today we're visiting with Joyce Sobotta, a breast health educator and founder of Healthy Girls Breast Oil.

[00:34:36.150]

In the last three segments, we have been...I have been introducing you and telling everyone that you are the founder of Healthy Girls Breast Oil, but we haven't talked about what that is yet. So I would like you to, first of all, introduce us to Healthy Girls Breast Oil and how it came about.

[00:34:56.250] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

OK, my sister died of metastasized breast cancer. She was 10 years younger than me, so she was 55. And the night, the evening that she died, she asked me if she could come to my house. I mean, I knew she wasn't going anywhere. She was wearing oxygen. She was very weak, but I gave her permission. I said, "Sure, you can come to my house." Anything to help her feel more comfortable. And she was, by me answering her that way. She had a big smile on her face and didn't say any more.

[00:35:30.870]

And then the following year, it came to me or I realized that I actually was giving her spirit permission to let her physical body go. And I was taking on the responsibility of...I felt a responsibility or a passion for teaching women about breast health. That's the way I felt that I wanted to do more. The following year, a thermographer asked if I could create a breast oil because I knew about the essential oils.

[00:36:04.320]

She said, "Could you make create a blend for breast massage?" And I said, "Oh, I'd love to." I started researching right away and found out that there were essential oils that would be very beneficial for breast health. One particularly was a study PubMed had out there that showed that orange with a large amount of di-limonene stopped and breast cancer growth. And I thought, nobody's talking about the di-limonene and we need that one in the bend. And then another one was kind of a fun one where it was marjoram as I looked up the oils to put in there and marjoram was joy of the mountains.

[00:36:47.010]

It was a folklore, joy of the mountains that I thought we had mountains. They were small. We love them all. We got to go in for the fun part of that. Alright. So those two and frankincense was definitely in there on the lap during the geranium rose. And now we're using jojoba, clarified jojoba oil as the base or the carrier oil in...and so it's used by women thermographers, is where I started. And I started calling other thermographers around the country. And many of them...

[00:37:25.350] - Candi Broeffle, Host

I hate to interrupt you, but could you explain to us, for people who may not know what a thermographer is, what they do?

[00:37:34.950] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

Thermography is a way to...it's not a diagnosis, but it's a scan. It's a screening. It's a breast screening that is done. And I won't say inan stead of but it's another way to screen instead of a mammogram. So it's a digital camera, infrared camera that takes a picture, an image. And wherever it shows heat, that shows that there are abnormal cells. And these thermographers are all over the country. They are working independently, not in a hospital setting. I guess actually thermography started in the hospitals, but it was not lucrative enough for the hospitals to continue it. So they went to the mammograms because that was much more lucrative. So now that's what thermography is. And like I said, they promote breast health so that I started contacting and working with thermographers and getting the breast oil out to them and then other health stores around the country.

[00:38:47.730] - Candi Broeffle, Host

This is something that you have on your website. You have the product available at HealthyGirlsBreastOil.Com. But it's also...so it is used to promote health, to promote breast health, and it's used with lymphatic massage. Correct?

[00:39:06.360] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

So and I like to say self-massage because I believe women, I truly believe women should love their breasts just the way they are. And doing the self-massage gives them the opportunity to love their girls, to move the limbs, learn, learn how to do it, starting at the neck and going down to the collarbone, opening up the circuitry so the lymph can move through that. Lymph has no pump. So we do need to move it with kind a pumping action, stretching, and releasing. Lymph is right underneath the skin.

[00:39:46.680]

So we we use a light stretching and releasing, first neck and then under the arm all the way up into the armpit and again stretching and releasing them, taking the breast and moving it to the side, several times to the side, one side and then to the center and then top flat hand on the top, going up to the collarbone, again, a light movement, but you're moving the limbs and it's clearing out, what the lymph does is cleaning out toxins and things that are accumulating and then around the breast with your fingers and then just at the end, just kind of beep the horn or just press on the middle of the breast.

[00:40:36.530] - Candi Broeffle, Host

And that's how you end the massage. But it is so important that people do this. I don't think we talk about breast self-exam, but people don't talk about...we're not taught to do the massage that. And like you said, it's so important. It's an important step because it does help to remove the toxins, to release the toxins. This is what happens when we get massage as well, why sometimes people feel so sore afterwards if they haven't drank enough water, if they haven't moved it out, move those toxins out of your body. How often do you do you recommend people do massage with the oil?

[00:41:19.760] - Joyce Sobotta, Guest

I recommend, if you've got a concern, at least twice a day morning before you put your clothes on and then in the evening when you take your clothes off if you have a concern. If you tend to start forgetting about it, well maybe you don't need to do it all the time. But definitely, when you get started or learned about it, you definitely want to start doing it. If you have any kind of pain and congestion, that is congestion. The pain is probably just congestion because we wear bras and it's getting congested. So moving another way is just fluffing. Lift them up and and fluffing them up and down would be another way, but some kind of a movement.

[00:42:03.220] - Candi Broeffle, Host
